A grandmother tends a bowl of yam and honey porridge at a village in the Henan Province city of Ruzhou on Friday, March 13. Zhuang Aiqing, 106, eschews most medicine. She prefers her own cough remedies. She does not chatter about wellness practices, yet her daily rituals speak of millennia-old health traditions. For it was Ruzhou resident and Tang Dynasty (618-907) scholar Meng Shen who wrote the Materia Medica for Dietary Therapy, outlining principles of natural living. People here today still follow many of his methods, valuing simple remedies and daily routines. In this episode, we journey to Meng's hometown and explore the secrets of longevity.
