Hosted by the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, the event brought together more than 160 guests, including government officials, experts and scholars, entrepreneurs, purchasers, distributors, and media representatives from across China.

At the start of the event, guests watched a themed video depicting how Wenzhou's large yellow croaker is woven into fishermen's lives and drives the industry, while telling the story of generations of Wenzhou people who have dared to blaze new trails.

Cui Bo, deputy mayor of Wenzhou, said in a speech that he hoped the event would mark a new starting point for expanding and strengthening the entire large yellow croaker industry chain, bringing Wenzhou's large yellow croaker to markets nationwide and to more people's dining tables.

The event was not only a brand-promotion opportunity but also a vivid showcase of China's achievements in the high-quality development of the marine economy, said Sun Haifeng, deputy editor-in-chief of People's Daily Online.

Zhou Jianqing, director of the Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, presented the industry's development achievements and future plans.

Over the past 20 years, the annual large yellow croaker output in Wenzhou has increased from 330 tonnes to 23,000 tonnes, while the output value of the primary industry has risen from 13 million yuan (about $1.94 million) to 1.9 billion yuan.

Zhao Wenwu, deputy secretary-general of the China Society of Fisheries, said the goal of developing new quality productive forces in fisheries is to achieve high-quality development of the fishery industry. Three conditions are essential for developing new quality productive forces in large yellow croaker aquaculture: a strong base of universities and institutions capable of conducting basic research; enterprises and institutions capable of translating basic research into applied technologies; and sufficient financial support for basic research and the application of research findings.

In 2025, the total output value of Zhejiang's large yellow croaker industry chain exceeded 12.5 billion yuan. The industry continued to expand, scientific and technological innovation continued to make breakthroughs, and efforts to benefit farmers continued to deliver results.

Lin Duanping, president of the Wenzhou Large Yellow Croaker Industry Association, delivered a keynote speech. She said Wenzhou's large yellow croaker industry is in a golden period of opportunity and has established a complete industry chain covering improved-variety breeding, deep-sea aquaculture, intensive processing, cold-chain logistics, and brand marketing.

The event also featured a roundtable discussion, bringing together representatives from government departments, research institutions, media think tanks, startups, and the catering industry. They discussed the high-quality development of Wenzhou's large yellow croaker industry, offering ideas for upgrading the industry.
