Chinese legislators urged to contribute to advancing rural revitalization

BEIJING, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Zhao Leji on Wednesday called on legislators to maintain close ties with the people, fulfill their duties and make new contributions to advancing all-around rural revitalization.

Zhao, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with NPC deputies who were attending the ongoing session of the NPC Standing Committee.

At the meeting, the deputies spoke on the report under deliberation on efforts to consolidate and expand achievements in poverty alleviation and advance all-around rural revitalization, sharing their views based on their work in performing their duties.

Zhao called on NPC deputies to focus on implementing key agricultural and rural measures set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), and offer suggestions on addressing major weaknesses in agricultural and rural development and pressing issues affecting farmers' interests.

He urged deputies from the agricultural and rural sectors to help farmers develop production suited to local conditions and increase their incomes, while calling on those from other sectors to support agricultural and rural development and contribute their expertise and strengths.
