Macao's retail, restaurant e-payment values rise in May
MACAO, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The value of electronic payment transactions in Macao's retail and restaurant sectors increased year-on-year in May, official data showed on Tuesday.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) of the Macao Special Administrative Region government, electronic payment transaction values in the retail trade rose 14.0 percent year-on-year to 4.90 billion patacas in May, while those for restaurants and similar establishments increased 1.8 percent to 1.19 billion patacas.
Among retailers, watches, clocks, and jewelry outlets and cosmetics and sanitary articles stores recorded strong growth, with transaction values rising 34.2 percent and 33.1 percent, respectively.
In the first five months of 2026, the DSEC noted, electronic payment transaction values increased 17.1 percent year-on-year in the retail trade and 2.0 percent in the restaurant sector. (1 pataca equals around 0.12 U.S. dollar)
