Xi's Spring Festival visits: Preparing a home-style meal for seniors
Days before the 2007 Spring Festival, Xi Jinping, then secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhejiang Provincial Committee, visited a nursing home in Qingyuan county, Lishui, Zhejiang Province. He personally stir-fried a large wok of steaming cabbage for the elderly residents, who enjoyed the meal with great enthusiasm.

Upon learning that some residents were bedridden, Xi insisted on visiting them. Afterward, he went straight to the bathroom to test the hot water temperature. He instructed the nursing home director and local officials: "Make sure the elderly always have access to hot water. If solar heating isn't sufficient, use electric heaters."
Later that year, Qingyuan county established three small-scale nursing homes, each equipped with experienced chefs who prepared softer, more nutritious meals for the elderly. The local power department also dispatched teams to upgrade the outdated electrical wiring in these facilities.
