Due to high temperatures and reduced rainfall, the water level of the Dongting Lake in Yueyang city, central China's Hunan Province has continued to decline, bringing severe challenges to agricultural production and people's livelihood.

The State Grid Yueyang Power Supply Company has dispatched workers to ensure electricity supply for agricultural irrigation.

At a 10-kV power transmission line in Weixin village, Liangxinbao township, Yueyang, more than 10 staff members of the company were replacing and expanding power cables at a culvert in the Ouchi River, a tributary of the Yangtze River.

After the renovation was completed, the transformer capacity was increased by 150 kW, which can ensure that two 75 kW pumps provide water from underground, reaching a pumping volume of 3,000 cubic meters per hour.

This allowed the transformer able to meet the power needs of residents while guaranteeing irrigation water for 5,000 mu (333.33 hectares) of rice paddies in three villages in the township.

They also installed a 500-kVA drought-resistant transformer. After power cables, the transformer, and meters were installed, eight pumping units started operating, pumping water from the Miluo River to over 4,000 mu of farmland.

The State Grid Yueyang Power Supply Company has actively connected with local flood and drought relief headquarters, formulated drought relief power supply contingency plans, made 24-hour emergency response preparations, and opened up green channels for drought-relief power use, shortening the installation and power supply time from the prescribed three days to within four hours.

As of Aug. 18, the company had dispatched 13 service teams, ensuring drought-relief electrical supply for 67 townships and towns.
