China handles 16.7 mln reports of illegal online content in March

BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Over 16.7 million reports of illegal or harmful online content were handled in China in March, up 32.7 percent from the same period last year.
Statistics from the Cyberspace Administration of China show that the figure is 14.4 percent higher than the month before.
Approximately 15.52 million reports were handled by major Chinese websites, according to the administration. It said that central and regional internet regulators dealt with some 1.18 million such reports.
The illegal or harmful online content reported was mostly information related to pornography, gambling, infringement and rumors.
