Youth Representatives from 85 Countries Respond to Changsha Initiative

The Achievement Demonstration of the International Youth Forum (IYF): Creativity and Heritage along the Silk Roads was held in Changsha on April 3. Youth representatives from 85 countries responded to the Changsha Initiative at the forum.

The initiative consists of five key words: creativity, innovation, exchange, capacity building, and youth. Three major consensuses have been reached. They are:

-Youth is the vitality of innovation and creativity;

-Youth are the beneficiaries and contributors of mutual communication and learning;

-Young people with abilities and skills are the dream-seekers of the new era and contributors to a better world.

Russell Rivoallan, head of the Social and Human Sciences Division of UNESCO Beijing Office, further elaborated on the Changsha Initiative. He related that governments, enterprises, and schools should:

-Provide financial and intellectual support for young people to promote their innovation and entrepreneurship;

-Strengthen the building of platforms that will facilitate communication among young people, and launch international youth projects and competitions; and,

-Encourage young people to share resources, leverage their strengths, and organize cultural activities in various places.

Standing Committee Member and Publicity Department Director of the CPC Changsha Municipal Committee Gao Shan, said that the Changsha Initiative has the voices of youth representatives from 85 countries heard worldwide, and Changsha is willing to be the first city to respond to the initiative. Changsha has hosted the IYF for 3 consecutive years and is always willing to promote the establishment of youth innovation partnership with the support of 2.7 million young people here in Changsha and its economic, social, educational, and cultural resources.
