In 2018, Changsha cultural enterprises above a designated size achieved operating revenue of 145.56 billion yuan, up 8.6% from last year. Taxes and surcharges reached 3.87 billion yuan, an increase of 17.2%. Profit totaled 10.75 billion yuan, up 3.0%. The Hunan Provincial Bureau of Statistics released the data on February 19.

The operating revenue of cultural enterprises above a designated size in Furong District, Yuelu District, Kaifu District, Yuhua District, and Liuyang City, exceeded 10 billion yuan. Among them, the operating revenue of those enterprises in Liuyang was 61.31 billion yuan, ranking first in Changsha, thanks to its fireworks industry. Those enterprises in Kaifu District achieved an operating income of 25.85 billion yuan, becoming the runner-up.

Changsha’s cultural industry has seen significant changes in 2018. On the one hand, the development of Hunan publishing, broadcasting, and performance art brands has slowed down. The operating revenue and profit of publishing enterprises over a designated scale decreased by 14.7% and 59.3% respectively. Revenue of entertainment enterprises above a designated size was less than 100 million yuan, down 5%. Revenue of television enterprises above a designated size only rose by 1%.

On the other hand, the newly-emerging cultural sectors is thriving. More than double-digit revenue growth was achieved by enterprises in the fields of internet information; digital content; advertising; design; broadcasting, film and television distribution and screening; and cultural exhibition. The integration of culture and science and technology has brought considerable benefits. The revenue of high-tech and cultural enterprises above a designated size in the city reached 26.78 billion yuan, up 22.2%.
