On January 15, Hu Henghua, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Standing Committee member and CPC Changsha Municipal Committee secretary, met with Wang Chuanfu, chairman of the board and president of BYD Company Limited.
BYD settled in Changsha in 2009, and Changsha has become the city with the most complete categories and the largest number of new energy vehicles (NEVs) within BYD’s global strategic framework. It has also formed the most complete industrial layout, including energy-saving and new energy passenger cars, pure electric buses, and pure electric special-purpose vehicles (SPVs).
In 2018, BYD in Changsha produced and sold 135,000 passenger cars and 3,000 electric buses throughout the year, achieving an industrial output value of 30 billion CNY, an increase of 50% over last year. It continued to take the lead in Changsha’s automobile industry.
This year, Changsha and BYD intend to enhance cooperation in fields like NEVs, new material industry, and rail transit. In terms of NEVs, BYD is expected to produce 300,000 passenger cars in Changsha in 2019, with an estimated output value of 35 billion CNY. It will focus on NEV planning and promote the launch of e1, e2, e3, and other small electric vehicles into the market; accelerate the construction of BYD truck research and development center; and, build a global headquarters for electric trucks and SPVs in Changsha that integrates research and development, production, and sales.
In addition, Changsha has a good industrial foundation in new energy, autonomous control, and information security industrial chain; and has actual demand for small-volume vehicles in its urban public transportation system. All these factors constitute important premises for the increased cooperation between the two sides.
Hu Henghua hoped that the two sides will further strengthen in-depth cooperation in NEVs, new energy batteries, automobile chips, and rail transit. Changsha will, as always, create conditions and provide guarantee for BYD’s development in Changsha.
Wang Chuanfu said that BYD is full of confidence in the prospect of Changsha NEV Base’s development and will accelerate the construction of electric trucks, new energy MPVs (multi-purpose vehicles), and SPVs. He hoped that Changsha will give strong support to taxis electrification and the development of a new urban rail transit system.
