On November 1, the decoration of the JD Intelligent Unmanned Delivery Demonstration Station in Changsha Science and Technology New Town was basically completed. As JD’s latest unmanned product, the super-shadow 800C delivery robot was jointly developed by JD Group and Changsha Xingshen Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. There are 30 independent boxes in its body part. The size of the boxes can be adjusted according to the package size. And the whole container of the robot is separable. It can be replaced as a whole. The launch of delivery robot provides technical conditions for a more convenient package delivery service in communities.

The station staff firstly put packages into the storage boxes of the delivery robot, and then input the order information into its system. The robot will automatically analyze and match the stopping point according to the order information. It starts off as soon as the delivery information is sent to the package receiver.

“Whether it is a closed-off park or an open road, robots can deliver the packages successfully”, a JD technician said. Delivery robots adopt automatic driving technique. It enables them to perform 360-degree real-time environmental monitoring; automatically avoid road obstacles, vehicles, and pedestrians; accurately identify traffic signals and respond to them accordingly; and automatically stop at the delivery point.

“The receiver can choose a verification code or face recognition to pick up parcels. After finishing the delivery, the robot will automatically go to the next delivery point”, said the technician.

The distribution demonstration station is scheduled to be put into use by the end of this month. It will be the world's first JD station that enables 100% parcel delivery by robots. Ten to twenty delivery robots, together with the express delivery men, will be responsible for JD parcel delivery within 5 kilometers around the Science and Technology New Town of Changsha. It will create a new mode of last-mile delivery service in China.
