On August 22, Hu Henghua, CPC Hunan Provincial Standing Committee member and CPC Changsha Municipal Committee secretary, learned about the development of national city of food safety during an inspection tour. He visited Hehuachi market in Kaifu District and learned about agricultural and sideline products safety management. Other city leaders such as Xia Jianping and Qiu Jixing also attended.

Hu stressed the importance of food safety for the public. With this project as the foundation, efforts will be made to improve cooperation and education about of food safety:

Government departments at all levels across the city will be implementing on-site supervision;

Governments will work together to detect on and punish illegal and criminal activities involving food safety and maintain a good food production and operation order;

All food production and business operation entities should understand that “whoever is in charge is responsible” for food safety and meet this primary responsibility; and,

The public should also consciously participate in this work and resist unsafe food, which will contribute to creating a safe food consumption market.

This year, Changsha markets are included in the construction of the “one circle, two parking lots, and three cycling roads” which will create a “15-minute living circle” for residents by building and renovating a number of fresh markets. After its upgrade, Hehuachi fresh market has taken on a new look. The market has rationally designated the fresh, live, raw, cooked, dry and wet trading areas, and introduced a “one-card system” and the “safe treatment of fruit and vegetable waste”. It provides a new consumption environment for residents.
