On June 27, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee Secretary Du Jiahao met in Changsha with officials from 10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states and the ASEAN Secretariat, who are attending the 15th Senior Officials Meeting and the 24th Joint Working Group Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea in Hunan.

Secretary Du said that in recent years, Hunan has actively participated in “Belt and Road” initiative and focused on expanding opening up, and further strengthened friendly exchanges and cooperation with ASEAN countries. It is hoped that the two sides will take the meetings as an opportunity to further deepen pragmatic cooperation between Hunan and ASEAN countries in the areas of economy, trade, culture, agriculture, science and education, and tourism. This will help make greater contribution for the continued development of China-ASEAN strategic partnership.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chee Wee Kiong, on behalf of officials from 10 ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat, thanked Hunan for its warm reception and spoke highly of Hunan’s economic and social progress. He said that ASEAN countries and Hunan have great cooperation potential in connectivity, trade and investment, and tourism. We will actively promote Hunan, continue to expand cooperation, and promote common development.

Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC Kong Xuanyou, and provincial leaders Chen Xiangqun, Hu Henghua, and Xie Jianhui attended.
