A howling-wind winter night should be a time for home, where warmth and hot chocolate are served. It was not the case for Ms. Zhang, a street vendor who sells roasted sweet potato in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong province. Neither was it the case for her 8-year-old son Nian’nian, who had to study and help his mom at the same time.

People in the neighborhood said the boy was always seen working hard there along with his mother. While the mother earned bread and butter, Nian’nian focused on his homework. Deprived of a desk and chair, Nian’nian just leaned over a trashcan and used the top as his desk. Helping mom with the business, this sweet boy is well known by nearby vendors. Thumbs up for his diligence!
