Hundreds of lion statues sported masks on the campus of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts on Dec. 13 in Xi'an, Shaanxi province. The display was created by students as a call for environmental awareness. The lions are perched on top of pillars that were traditionally used in Shaanxi to tie up horses. They used to be erected outside people's homes, signaling the prosperity and security of the house.
