Herdsmen in Habahe County, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region spent much of Nov. 20 guiding their livestock across a windy stretch of land. There are 100,000 domestic animals in the area, all of which need to be transferred to a more sheltered pasture to ride out the winter. To reach the winter pasture, the flock must cross an area with strong winds, complicating the jobs and threatening the safety of local herdsmen.
This year, in order to facilitate the task, local government officials put up signs showing directions. They also used machines to clear snow from the paths, and tasked the meteorological department with closely monitoring the migration.
