
Approximately 32,000 people with the common surname "Huang" assembled in Shenzhen, Guangdong province to enjoy a feast at the Xiasha Culture Square on Nov. 13. A total of 3,200 tables were set up to accomodate the attendees, who came from 28 countries.
The purpose of the assembly, held annually since 1980, is ancestor worship. It is seen as an important event on both a local and international level. The "big bowl feast" that participants enjoyed consists of Cantonese cuisine served in large wooden, porcelain or metal basins.
