Chinese Embassy hands over computers to school in S.Africa

Ekurhuleni, Nov 7 (People’s Daily Online) - 15 Chinese top brand computers as well as desks, chairs and a server have been installed in the Marhulana Primary Schoolin Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, South Africa. Thanks to the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, the Learners now have access to a brand new computer lab.

South African President Jacob Zuma and Chinese Ambassador to South Africa TianXuejun returned to Marhulana Primary School on Monday to hand over a donation of computers and sports equipment, following their visit to the school in July as part of Mandela Day commemorations.

During the visit to the school in July, when the overseas Chinese community handed the learners with warm blankets and school bags, Zuma and the Chinese Embassy also made a commitment to equip the school with computers.

The use of ICTs in education is increasingly becoming an important medium for complementing the delivery of the curriculum in most developing countries. SA Department of Basic Education takes e-Education as a priority issue, which is well reflected through the Action Plan to 2014: Towards the Realisation of Schooling 2025.

Zuma appreciated the friendship with China. He encouraged the learners tomake full use of the excellent learning equipment and contribute their own share to the development of South Africa and to South Africa-China friendship.

As TianXuejun said, the Chinese Embassy will continue to promote educational cooperation and exchanges and contribute to the mutual benefits and common development of both South Africa and China.“I firmly believe that our cooperation will sow the seeds of friendship in the many young hearts and minds of our two countries to carry forward our great relations into the future.” He said.
