Sanitation worker beaten after driving dog away in street

By Sun Wenyu (People's Daily Online)    17:49, October 28, 2016

On Oct. 26, a female sanitation worker in Lanzhou, Gansu province was beaten by a young man after shooing the man's dog away in the street. Under the direction of local police, the man later apologized to the worker and offered her compensation of 1,600 RMB ($236).

According to a witness, the man was in a pet store that day, waiting to have his dog examined. After being told that the dog should defecate before its check-up, the man took his pet out to the street. The sanitation worker then drove the dog away and got a beating from the man, who claimed that the worker had hit his dog.

A netizen posted a message online, claiming that the man had shouted that the lives of sanitation workers are cheaper than that of his dog. A friend of the man did say that the worker started the fight. However, the worker denied this, saying the man had hit her first. According to the worker, the man slapped her in the face and kicked her in the stomach. She was even knocked to the ground.

After mediation by local police, the man apologized to the sanitation worker and gave her a cash compensation.
