China, Russia pledge closer security cooperation

(Xinhua)    20:10, September 13, 2016

China and Russia pledged to strengthen security cooperation as a meeting on law-enforcement and security cooperation was held Tuesday in Beijing.

The meeting, co-hosted by Meng Jianzhu, head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, and Nikolai Patrushev, secretary of the Russian Security Council, was the third since the mechanism was established two years ago.

"Deepening law-enforcement and security cooperation is of great significance to China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination," Meng said.

Applauding the fruitful cooperation achievements in law-enforcement, anti-terrorism, and procuratorial as well as judicial work since the establishment of this mechanism, Meng expressed hope that the two sides would implement consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and further strengthen such cooperation.

Russia is ready to work closely with China and support each other, contributing to the two countries' security interests and regional stability, Patrushev said.

The first meeting of the security mechanism was held in 2014 in Beijing and the second one was held last year in the Russian city of Ulan-Ude.
