On August 22, a man of Hong Kong residency claimed his daughter from a charity house in the city of Huizhou in south China’s Guangdong province, saying that his wife abandoned the 2-year-old girl four days ago after a fight between the couple.
He said he learned about his daughter’s situation after identifying her in news reports, and he immediately rushed to claim her in Huizhou.
At around 10 p.m. on Aug. 18, Huizhou police received a report from a man who claimed that a woman in her 30s had asked him to keep an eye on her daughter while she went to use the bathroom. He agreed and kept an eye on the girl for an hour, but the woman never came back.
When police arrived, they found a note in the stroller that said the girl was born "diseased" on May 3, 2014. The note also said that the girl's family couldn't afford to raise her, but that they "hoped she will be adopted by some kind-hearted people.”

Though dirty in appearance, the girl appeared to be in good health. Police officers helped the girl wash up and later dressed her in clean clothes and fed her. The girl was quiet at first, but later started to cry, insistently looking for her grandmother.
Police arranged for the 2-year-old to pass the night at Dayawan Charity House. The next day, a foster family agreed to take the girl. However, a medical check-up showed that the girl was free from disease.
