German car-maker Mercedes-Benz has begun a recall of 2,341 vehicles in China after it was discovered that the cars possess defective engine control software, according to China's quality watchdog. The recall began on Aug. 18.
The affected vehicles belong to the imported GLE series, manufactured between Dec. 5, 2014 and June 3, 2016, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement. The defect could cause vehicles to stall randomly, thereby increasing the risk of a collision.
Mercedes-Benz will offer customers a free upgrade of the engine control software to correct the defect.
