A set of freehand maps guiding Beijing users around common heavy-traffic areas recently went viral online, with some netizens claiming it's even better than navigation apps.
The maps were drawn by Dou Liguo, a senior courier with 10 years of experience who is intimately familair with local traffic patterns. Dou said his original intention was to help new couriers acquaint themselves with the local traffic; this way, less experienced employees could avoid jammed sections and improve working efficiency.
Many of the recommended routes on the map cut through school campuses, residential communities, small streets and park paths. The best routes are all marked in different colors. The maps are so detailed that one even features a dog, reminding users to watch out for wandering pets in this area.
Though they have been hailed by many netizens, the maps do not satisfy everyone. One driver said the routes aren't very reliable since he doesn't know where those narrow roads lead.
