China home to 19 of world's 100 richest tech tycoons

Nineteen tech tycoons from the Chinese mainland, who together boast a combined worth of $132.7 billion yuan, appeared on this year's Forbes list of the 100 richest tech billionaires in the world. On the 2015 list, 20 Chinese tycoons were listed.

Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group Holdings Ltd., and Pony Ma, founder and CEO of Tencent Holdings Ltd., are ranked 8th and 9th respectively. Jack Ma is worth an estimated $25.8 billion, while Pony Ma is worth approximately $22 billion.

Ding Lei, founder and CEO of NetEase, climbed from 26th to 17th, with an estimated net worth of $11.7 billion. Lei Jun, CEO and founder of smartphone maker Xiaomi, is ranked 22nd, and is worth $9.8 billion. Liu Qiangdong, CEO of JD.com, has an estimated fortune of $5.6 billion, earning him the 37th spot on the list. Jia Yueting, chairman and founder of LeEco Holdings Ltd., is ranked 45th, with a fortune worth $4.7 billion.

Out of the world's 100 richest tech tycoons, 51 are from the U.S., accounting for nearly two-thirds of the group's total wealth. After the U.S., the next most represented country on the list is China.

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, remains the world's richest tech billionaire as well as the world's richest person, with an estimated fortune of $78 billion. Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, and Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook, are ranked second and third on the list.
