A piece of performance art called "Lonely Couch" debuted in Shanghai on Aug. 8. In the piece, 40 women stage a protest on behalf of their overworked husbands. The women stand on couches while wearing pajamas, as if they were waiting for their husbands to come home from work. They hold up signs that describe their deepest feelings, revealing their sadness and helplessness in the situation.

Overwork has become a real problem. In a recent survey, 72.6 percent of all respondents said they work overtime every week. The performance piece promotes a family-oriented society and calls attention to a growing social issue.
