Rights of defendants in subversion case protected

The Tianjin municipal detention house said that all defendants in a high-profile case involving a group of activists accused of subverting State power have been given legal protection in line with laws.

The group of activists, including Hu Shigen and Zhai Yanmin, had been detained in the detention house before trials.

Huang Bin, director of Tianjin's No 1 Detention House, said their case hearings were broadcast via television, which aimed to ensure transparent judicial proceedings, many netizens found that they were in good condition and looked good.

Huang noted that all defendants are guaranteed health checks for their health issues.

61-year-old Hu Shigen, leader of an illegal organization, has confirmed during trial that he had received medical attention for heart diseases and could take medicines on time during detention.

In addition, every defendant can be allowed to buy life necessities, such as food, clothes and shoes, through the detention house.

Huang Bin added that air conditioners are installed for suspects and those who will be freed or stand trial in rooms and helped them celebrate their birthdays, if necessary.
