People’s Daily hails media’s role in ‘Belt and Road’ initiative

“Media from around the globe should join hands and take full advantage of Internet technologies In doing so it is possible to bring governments, companies and media closer together, so as to further assist the Belt and Road Initiative and serve the people in Belt and Road countries,” said Wang Yibiao, Deputy Editor-in-Chief and Secretary General of People’s Daily.

Wang was speaking to more than 200 media members from more than 100 countries attending the New Media and Technology Sub Forum on the sideline of the 2016 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road on July 26, an annual event hosted by People’s Daily. Wang is also chairman of the board of People’s Daily Online.

“Mobile Internet, big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies are generating a new round of innovation. Media and enterprises shall use these new technologies to promote global information dissemination and communication,” Wang added.

 People’s Daily has Facebook and Twitter accounts in a number of languages, which have attracted a total of more than 22 million followers across the world.

People.cn, the newspaper’s official website, will celebrate its 20th anniversary next year. According to statistics from the end of 2015, its monthly average number of visitors using PCs (desktop or laptops) has reached 160 million.

People’s Daily Online’s mobile Internet service, m.people.cn, has an average of 30 million visitors per day.

As of May 2016, organization's official Sina Weibo account had attracted more than 74 million followers.
