A man carrying a suitcase in a public park in central China’s Hunan province on June 27 caught much attention for the cry for “help!” heard from the suitcase. The man abandoned the suitcase and jumped into a lake in the park after he was stopped by passersby.

A video taken on scene shows one of the male passersby opened the abandoned suitcase, and found a naked woman trapped inside. Another male bystander was seen in the video taking off his shirt and giving it to the trapped woman. Several female bystanders went up and helped the women get out of the suitcase. Police and ambulance were called on scene.

The police later caught the escaped man from the lake. The naked woman told the police she was raped by the man – a roommate of hers that night before she got stuffed in the suitcase, and was not sure what the man wanted to do with her.

Police said the man was trying to throw the suitcase away as a cover-up of his crime. The victim is now in stable condition, and a further investigation is underway.
