ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, June 23 -- The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has become a popular, attractive and authoritative international institution with many countries eager to join, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Xinhua.

He made the remarks in an hour-long exclusive interview here with Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao ahead of his upcoming state visit to China, which is scheduled for Saturday.
