50 tons of sticky rice used to restore an ancient city wall in SW ‎China

(People's Daily Online)    09:17, June 20, 2016

To restore an ancient city wall in southwest ‪‎China‬'s Sichuan province the way it was built 600 years ago, modern Chinese construction workers boiled 50 tons of sticky rice non-stop for over two months to create adhesive to replace the cement used between the bricks.

Ancient Chinese construction workers have been boiling sticky rice to make adhesive since 1500 years ago. The adhesive used between the bricks in the ancient city wall is believed to be the same as the one construction workers are trying to recreate.
