Shenzhen has become a global distribution center for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), accounting for 70 percent of the global civilian UAV market share. Besides DJI-Innovations, there are more than 300 drone companies and the combined annual sales exceeded 20 billion yuan, witnessing over 30 percent of a year-on-year increase, the National Business Daily (NBD) reports on Monday.
More than 90 percent of the UAV worldwide come from the city, especially consumer drones, said Yang Jincai, president of Shenzhen UAV association to the NBD. At the CES 2016, UAV companies from Shenzhen make for half of the domestic drone exhibitors, Yang added.
Drones are wildly used by police and fire departments, but there are still huge imagined applications in many professional areas, Yang believes.
Among the diversified civilian drones, agricultural UAV is becoming gradually hot in market trends.
Statistics show as of December 2015, China has more than 400 drone developers and makers, and over 100 of them are manufacturers for agricultural drones.
During the Fifth Shenzhen International Intelligent Transportation System and Location-based Services Expo held recently, more than 230 UAV from about 110 companies were displayed.
