China's health authority has confirmed on Friday night that 71 victims suffering from severe eye damages after being injected with unqualified gas in two hospitals are eligible to seek compensation.
These patients, having eye surgeries in the Beijing-based Peking University Third Hospital and Nantong University Subsidiary Hospital in Jiangsu Province, had severe adverse reaction on June 2015.
Investigation results showed that the gas used during the surgeries, produced by Tianjin Jingming New Technological Development Co. Ltd., were unqualified.
The health authority has halted the use of all the unsafe gases nationwide and conducted further investigations into the spread of the products. So far no more victims have been reported.
Authorities have also dispatched medical specialists to the hospitals to assist in the treatments of these victims and access their eye damage.
Authorities said some of the victims have already got their compensation.
