Recently, an older woman in her sixties became ill and vomited on a bus in Tiantai County in Zhejiang province. Passengers all around her tried to avoid the disgusting scene; some turned their heads in other directions, some covered their noses, and some walked to other parts of the bus. However, one girl took the cover off her book and offered it the woman in case she needed to vomit again. The girl also used tissues to wipe up the vomit on the ground. After that, she went quietly back to her seat.
Mr. Ji, another passenger on the bus, was deeply touched by the scene. He believed that the girl deserved more praise, so he spent several days tracking her down.
Zhang Jingchu, 12, is the girl who helped the older woman on the bus. When Mr. Ji approached Zhang's teacher at the local primary school, the teacher was not surprised to hear what her student had done. She said, "That is Zhang Jingchu, a warm-hearted person."
Ms. Xiang, Zhang Jingchu's mother, also heard about her daughter's good deed. She said it showed that her daughter had grown up.
Zhang, however, believes her actions were simply a matter of common decency. She explained that the sick woman was sitting near her. When she saw the woman vomit, Zhang felt very sympathetic, not least because her own grandmother is around the same age as the woman. She therefore came to offer help at once.
