Engineering wunderkind proves exception to rule (13)

Statistics consistently show that more men than women study engineering and science at universities. However, there are always exceptions, and a young woman named Guo Yanan appears to be one of them.

In 2009, Guo was admitted to Northwestern Polytechnical University, one of the acclaimed educational institutions for science and engineering in China. Due to her outstanding academic performance, she was given direct admission to the university’s graduate school.

Guo has gotten to where she is through hard work. Despite the fact that she was legitimately admitted to the university in 2009, some of her classmates still held prejudices against her. Nevertheless, in the face of their skepticism, she studied hard and built up her image as a capable student.

Apart from her academic pursuits, Guo has a passion for dancing. When she was still an undergraduate, Guo headed a dance troupe at her university. She also took part in more than 40 art and cultural shows. After getting her master’s degree, Guo took a job at Northwestern Polytechnical University.
