After the accident, relevant departments rushed to the scene for rescue. The sand mining ship has been towed to a safe zone and the bridge is temporarily closed. The time for reopen will be fixed after evaluation by experts.
According to the flood control and drought relief headquarters of Jiangxi province, heavy rains have hit most parts of the province since last Saturday, pushing water levels in some rivers well above warning lines. The average precipitation in the province reached 67 millimeters, and topped 168 millimeters at the worst.
Three people were killed during a rainstorm in Jiangxi over the past five days, the provincial civil affairs department announced on Wednesday.
A total of 3,976 people in Ganzhou and Ji'an cities have been relocated. About 4,400 hectares of crops were destroyed and 269 houses collapsed, according to the statistics of the department.
