One Chinese national has been confirmed dead after being robbed by a gang in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Province.
According to China's Consulate General in Durban, the deceased was a tourist from Shanghai.
The Consulate General has issued a safety warning, saying frequent violent protests and armed robberies in the province have caused casualties and property losses to Chinese people.
Media reports say the robbery took place on Thursday, when four Chinese tourists and their driver, also a Chinese national, were stopped by a couple gang members.
A female victim, who reportedly refused to hand over bags to the robbers, was shot six times. She died later in hospital.
The driver, who was shot three times, remains hospitalized.
