Indian media has recently been sensationalizing the so-called "China threat." News website Zee published an article claiming that Chinese troops would soon be positioned in Pakistan to heighten security along the 3,000-kilometer-long China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). This announcement was revealed to be a rumor by China's Global Times on March 13.
After Zee published the story, a New Delhi TV station made further comments about India's security concerns. An Indian government official said during a TV interview, "We are closely watching these developments. And we have a fair idea of the number of Chinese troops that are likely to be positioned in Pakistan."
Sources told the Global Times that the rumors are purely fictitious. In addition, not a single mainstream news outlet in Pakistan reported any similar news. Many netizens left comments under the original article, saying that the story was complete nonsense.
To enhance the security of CPEC, Pakistan's Daily Times reported in February that the government was putting together a force of around 10,000 people. At least 14,000 Chinese technicians and engineers are working on some 210 projects in Pakistan.
