Selfie-sticks have been banned from this year’s annual Two Sessions so that delegates can stay focused on their duties.
“The biggest task for delegates here is to perform their duties,” an official explained, adding that using the device will distract them from doing their job.
Behind the harsh policy lies the determination of policy makers to achieve both a productive National People’s Congress (NPC) session and a fruitful Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee meeting. Delegates can, therefore, be aware of their great responsibilities.
As the two-week political meetings are underway, authorities also called for media to leave the front page for major national events instead of meaningless tabloid news.
The quality of proposals, rather than their quantity, ought to be highlighted, they added.
