China’s political wisdom receives more global recognition

By Zhong Sheng (People's Daily)    10:13, March 06, 2016

As China’s rising influence brings it more attention around the world, the international community is showing more appreciation of China’s courage to shoulder responsibility and its political wisdom, said a commentary published in the People’s Daily Thursday, as China’s top political advisory body kicked off its annual session.

Thursday's session of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee marks the start of the most important two weeks on China's political calendar this year. The National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, is set to begin its annual session Saturday.

With China playing a more significant role in the international arena, its domestic political agendas have drawn more global attention with increasing spillover effects.

As for the Two Sessions this year, while focusing on major topics including China’s economic growth target in 2016, the 13th Five-Year Plan and the supply-side structural reform, foreign media are also trying to catch the latest updates on specific issues such as China’s solution to “zombie enterprises,” reducing real estate glut and employment.

International observers, whether analyzing the macro-picture or specific areas, pay much attention to the new notions, new ideas and new strategies regarding governance and administration proposed by Chinese leaders since the 18th National People’s Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). They also try to use them as their research sources.

Their interest in China’s governance ideas can be proved by popularity of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China, a compilation of the leader’s major works.

As soon as it was published, 5.37 million copies were sold in more than 100 countries and regions, setting the best-selling record for a Chinese leader since China began to reform and open up more than 3 decades ago.

Book reviews were published by political heavyweights, scholars and the public around the globe. Symposiums and seminars were also held in the US, Russia, the UK and many other countries.

In addition, over 240 books elaborating China’s path, exploration and experience were exported to dozens of countries and regions like the US, the UK, Germany, France and Russia.

For example, Why and How the CPC Works in China, a book presenting a profound analysis of the CPC’s achievements, was translated into 12 languages.

The English version of China: The New Long March, a book portraying today’s China through the eyes of photographers after they revisited the original route of the Long March, has sold more than 20,000 copies overseas, with the sale value totaling $1.6 million.

China’s new governance practices gave the global society a keen insight into the Chinese leaders’ ideology of state governance as well as their missions and responsibilities.

Those practices include China’s “four-pronged comprehensive strategy, the five development notions namely innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development, and its determination to build a moderately prosperous society.

As a result, more foreigners are showing a broader perspective, and voicing more reasonable opinions and confidence when analyzing obstacles that China encounters during its development.

Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, for example, hailed that the Chinese government has enough political will and policy guidance to address major issues regarding China’s long-term development mode.

He added that Chinese leaders were aware of the roadblocks they met and never tried to cover those issues up.

With China’s two sessions raising the curtain, the international community hopes to feel a strong pulse of China’s reform and development, comprehend the consensus pooled by Chinese leaders, and witness their historical responsibility and political wisdom to lead national development, the article concluded.
