Vietnam supports denuclearization of Korean Peninsula: foreign ministry

(Xinhua)    19:29, March 03, 2016

HANOI, March 3 -- Vietnam's consistent position is in support of peace, stability and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, nonproliferation and nuclear weapon disarmament, said a Vietnamese official on Thursday.

Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the remark in responding to reporters' inquiries over Vietnam's reaction on the adoption of a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution imposing tougher sanctions on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Vietnam wishes that all parties involved will work together to find peaceful solutions for all the issues on the Korean Peninsula in order to make concrete contributions to the maintenance of peace, stability in the region and the world, Binh said during a regular press briefing held Thursday in Vietnam's capital Hanoi.

As an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam has been and will strictly comply with all the resolutions of the UNSC, Binh told reporters.

The UNSC on Wednesday adopted a resolution to impose new sanctions on the DPRK in order to curb the country's nuclear and missile programs.

The resolution was unanimously adopted by the 15 members of the council in response to DPRK's nuclear test on Jan. 6 and satellite launch on Feb. 7.
