The President of the Christian Council in the province of Zhejiang Joseph Gu has been removed from his post after being arrested on embezzlement charges.
Joseph Gu is accused of embezzling large amounts of money during his time as the senior pastor at Hangzhou's biggest church, the Chongyi Protestant Church.
He's since been replaced as the head of Zhejiang's Christian Council by Shan Weixiang.
At the same time, Monday's meeting of the Council has also seen the group hammer out new regulations to strengthen the supervision of finances among religious organizations in Zhejiang.
