China saw a 7 percent drop in foreign export and import volume in 2015. The decrease in import and export continued in January 2016.
In recent days, a team led by China's Vice Premier Wang Yang went to east China's Jiangsu province to study the export and import businesses there. China's Ministry of Commerce has made it a top priority in 2016 to maintain steady growth in foreign trade and ensure the quality of imports and exports.
In February 2016, Wang Yang pointed out that policies should be improved to solve the financing problem and the problem of arbitrary charges and to avoid the inconvenience in customs clearance. Wang said that in order to alleviate the pressure on companies, the government should step up efforts to explore new policies such as categorized supervision based on the status of goods and selective taxation.
Analysts say that the central government has issued several documents to optimize the pattern and composition of foreign trade, and to help companies create famous brands and cultivate new growth points in foreign trade.
China's local authorities will also step up efforts to carry out supportive policies and ensure the growth in foreign trade.
For instance, Guangdong province has rolled out 20 measures to encourage steady growth of foreign trade and promote upgrading and transformation since 2015; in 2016, Yunnan province will take advantage of its own strengths to drive the growth in export of goods and services.
