Cycling odyssey: City workers quit their job to pedal from the UK to Japan (5)

(Mail Online)    13:46, February 16, 2016

Though the two often commuted to work via bike in London, Andre and Claire tell MailOnline Travel that they were in no means in tip-top shape before heading out and did no additional training prior.

'The great thing about a cycle trip is that you can go at your own pace,' Claire says.

'Our longest day has been 130km and our shortest just 10 - pushing our bike up a muddy track in the Himalayas is not fun!'

In the United Arab Emirates, Claire takes a carefree ride along the Khalid Lake in Sharjah

While in Turkey, Claire and Andre took a dip in Pamukkale, a natural mineral hot springs, which means 'cotton castle' in Turkish

In Kathmandu, Durbar Square in front of the old royal palace of the former Kathmandu Kingdom, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site

In January, Andre and Claire made it to the Taj Mahal in India, where they snapped this iconic photo

But it's the people that they've met along the way that have been the most memorable part of their cross-the-world cycling challenge.

'Inevitably, on a cycle tour, your route will change, you will meet new people, learn about new places and find new spots to visit on the road.'

'We recently came across a 72-year-old American man cycling solo across India and Nepal,' Claire says of their inspiring trek.

'We have also come across a number of families on the road, especially in Europe.

'In addition, hosting communities are also fantastic and we have met some wonderful people through them.'
