Trains delayed after quake hits Xinjiang

URUMQI, Jan. 14 -- Nine trains in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have been delayed following a 5.3-magnitude earthquake in the region early Thursday morning.

The earthquake, at a depth of 5 km, struck Bayingol Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture at 5:18 a.m.. The epicenter was monitored at 42.19 degrees north latitude and 84.12 degrees east longitude, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).

The nine trains, which usually ply four different routes, will undergo safety checks and maintenance, according to Xinjiang's railway authority.

No casualties have been reported.
