The unexpected announcement of the first hydrogen bomb test by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will not only deal a huge blow to the unpredicted Korean Peninsula denuclearization process and unnecessarily intensify the tensions in Northeast Asia, but more importantly will also harm the DPRK's own security.

It is still too early to confirm whether it is a truly H-bomb test as this kind of test requires sophisticated technology.

However, the DPRK'S claimed successful test, its fourth attempt since 2006, which took place at 10 am and created a man-made earthquake at a magnitude of 5.1 near Sungjibaegam, raises an urgent alarm on the DPRK's growing nuclear capabilities.

The test is more like a response to defy the West's doubts on the DPRK’s capacity to own H-bombs when the DPRK leader Kim Jong-un claimed that the country had developed an H-bomb in December.

By drawing global attention with the test, the DPRK has actually once again called on the world to seriously address its security concern.
