The head official in charge of the district where the deadly landslide took place in Shenzhen jumped to his death late Sunday, according to a post on an official police social media account.
Xu Yuan'an, former chief of the City Urban Administrative and Law Enforcement Bureau for Shenzhen's Guangming New District, committed suicide on Sunday, local police said. His death came a week after the catastrophic Shenzhen landslide on December 20, 2015, took place.
The landslide buried 16 buildings in the industrial zone. As of today, 7 were confirmed dead with other 75 unaccounted for. Only one man has been pulled out from the debris alive.

State Council investigation team confirmed on December 25 that the landslide was an accident, not geological disaster.
The disaster was caused by soil waste from construction sites, whose improper choice of storage site was approved by Xu’s bureau in 2014.
Shenzhen police said on December 28 that they have “taken compulsory measures” against 12 people who are responsible for the landslide, including company executives.
