The first mass-produced 40-nanometer chip for use with the Beidou Navigation system have been developed by a technology company in Wuhan, according to a press conference on the achievements of the Beidou Navigation system held in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province Wednesday.

The newly developed "Qimeng TM Chip" will be widely used in fields such as travel navigation, positioning, monitoring, wearable Internet, portable handheld devices, precision timing and IP licensing for mobile phones and tablet PCs.

It is the first mass-produced integrated chip using the 40-nanometer process which can support Beidou / GPS / GLONASS and baseband RF . "The chip has dozens of core technologies, its performance, power, technology and price have reached the international advanced level," said Sun Jiadong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Science.

Currently, the "Qimeng TM Chip" represents the most advanced navigation chip technology. At just 5 mm square, the chip effectively resolved the size and power consumption problems in the domestic chips, at just 50 percent the cost of similar foreign advanced products . The chip can directly replace existing navigation chips used in civilian applications without any additional costs. It can help to further reduce the costs associated with consumer products as well.
