President ‪‎Xi Jinping‬ and ‪‎Taiwan‬ leader Ma Ying-jeou are scheduled to hold face-to-face talks in ‪‎Singapore‬ on Saturday. In this historical moment between the leaders across the Taiwan Strait, there will be a special witness: a handmade china artwork of Formosan Blue Magpie. Ma Ying-jeou will present this piece of elegant craft to President Xi.

Formosan Blue Magpies are only seen in Taiwan. According to the artwork’s maker, since such species live in groups and have strong family bonds, the gift symbolizes that “people across the Strait are one family”.
