China's first peace-keeping battalion stalked by armed men during food supply mission in South Sudan
The convoy proceeds slowly.

In recent days, China's first peace-keeping infantry battalion has entered areas of conflict in South Sudan. After three days of marching, this battalion managed to successfully deliver more than ten trucks of food provided by the United Nations.

The local wars in the South Sudan led to mass starvation and plunged millions of people into risk of famine. China's peace-keeping infantry battalion was ordered to escort the UN World Food Program convoy of emergency food supplies into the western part of South Sudan which is experiencing widespread conflict. Moreover, this battalion had to ensure that the food supplies would reach the peace-keeping troops stationed in a county 300 kilometers from Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

The convoy departed from Juba on the morning of Oct. 27, 2015 and passed through regions controlled by the national army as well as areas occupied by local forces.

With the active coordination of the liaison officer, the convoy was able to return to the road after being stopped and questioned several times in the area controlled by the national army.

The peace-keeping soldiers spotted unknown armed men in the woods when the convoy entered the narrow valley. According to the action plan, the units of the battalion were ready for a fight against these armed men. The battalion displayed their superior weapons, acting as a powerful deterrent to the armed personnel. These armed men followed the convoy all the way without causing any trouble.
