Mahikeng, Nov. 3 (People’s Daily Online) - South Africa - China Economy and Trade Association (SACETA) led a delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs in South Africa to Mahikeng, the capital city of North West Province, to seek business opportunities with their local counterparts. The delegates were from COSCO, China Shipping, FAW, SANY, Bank of China, and China Construction Bank.
Bordered by Botswana in the north makes the North West a perfect gateway for reaching the Southern African Development Community, which means 14 sub-Saharan countries and over 250 million consumers.
The delegation explored the Mahikeng Airport and the nearby Special Economic Zone (SEZ) with the company of local officials. The SEZ consists of 52 fully-services industrial sites of 2600 square meters each, which applies a series of tax incentives to attract investors to set up their business in agro-processing, mineral beneficiation and high-tech manufacturing.
As the Premier of the North West Province Supra Mahumapelo said, his office has worked tirelessly to ensure the growth of the provincial economy for the benefit of its people. “We have embarked on an earnest campaign to rebrand, reposition and renew the North West, securing the economic and social well-being of future generations.”
The Deputy President of SACETA and General Manager of COSCO Africa, Liu Gang, highlighted their industries of interest, saying Chinese enterprises were eager to collaborate with the North West in business and trade. The two sides discussed further cooperation afterwards.
